The Kin and Country Framework
This Framework was developed by Indigenous knowledge holders from across the continent and surrounding islands now known as Australia.
We offer it as a gift – use it thoughtfully, cite the people whose knowledge made it, and engage deeply. You can adapt it to your own context – your own Kin and Country.
What is the Kin and Country Framework?
At its heart, the Framework rests on two ideas: everything is related, and nothing exists on its own.
To see the world as Kin and Country is to look for those relationships, between people and ancestors, land and water, weather and the generations still to come. It gives you four perspectives to think from.
The four perspectives are most powerful when they're in conversation – what we call pattern thinking.
Connect with each one, then bring them together to see what new knowledge they create together.
Made by many hands
The Framework was created by Gamilaroi education scholar Dr Michelle Bishop and Pairrebenne Trawlwoolway researcher Dr Lauren Tynan, drawing on the teachings of the many knowledge holders whose voices and stories live inside it.
